Dance, ten - Drunks, three.
September 15th, 2007 Posted in HumorLast night, Gian, Nicole, and I went to the Capitol Hill Arts Center to watch Ten Tiny Dances. It is a performance idea that started in Portland. Dancers have to perform on a very small stage with audience members on all four sides. With the exception of a couple of less polished pieces, the entire performance was brilliant. Our favorite was this incredibly fast-paced, humorous number in the second act. Plus, there was a bar with good, inexpensive drinks. It was a near-perfect evening.
The evening WOULD have been perfect had this drunk lady who had the most audacious stripped tights, crazy mess of hair, and who was drunk from the first song not been there. To give you a sampling of her antics : during the SECOND dance (Gogo), she was yelling at the dancer to “take it off! take it off!” By the end, she was threatening to jump on the stage herself and then started clapping loudly (and off beat, no less). It certainly made for enjoyable, mocking commentary during dessert afterwards, but was rather annoying during the performance. I wonder (1) why did the venue let her stay and (2) why did the bartender keep serving her when she was visibly (and audibly) drunk?
