I’ve heard that the Italians are very fond of dalliance…

Golden Gate Park & Bridge

June 27th, 2008 Posted in Travel | No Comments »

Golden Gate Bridge

We took a cab to Haight-Ashbury and wandered around this famous 60’s landmark. It was awesome… though, I think I got high just WALKING past some people. We stopped in for a drink at a local bar where the barman gave us some tips on getting to Golden Gate Park. We wandered through the park, then took a bus to Golden Gate Bridge (surprisingly, at least to me, the two are NOT close to one another).

Though it was foggy, the Golden Gate Bridge was spectacular. We also learned that there is a suicide helpline phone on the bridge… makes sense.

SF: Chinatown

Chinatown

We started our trip in Chinatown. Most of our trip there consisted of us wandering around through little shops. We ate at House of Nanking, which was fantastic… though the service was a bit rushed. We ended up making our way back through the Financial District.

Screen savers must die!

Who knew… turning off your screen saver is fine for your computer and much better for the environment. Cool!

Pricey, but fun, weekend

Gian and I went to go see Namaste Man at the INTIMAN Friday night. It was an incredible show and Andrew Weems, the sole performer, crafted a fansinating story about sense of place, belonging, and familiatity despite the surroundings. We also bought the Tony-Award winning recording of South Pacific at the theatre because some the proceeds went back to the theatre. It’s a fantastic recording and now I wish I could see it live in New York (any one want to buy me a ticket? ;-)
Saturday, we went to Tulalip to the Seattle Premium Outlets and I bought these awesome pants from Benetton, another pair of pants at Banana Republic, jeans at Guess (they were hot), plus a few other things. Before you judge, I haven’t bought new clothes in a LOOOONG time, so this was well deserved and remember, I have to represent Seattle well down in SF. ;-)

Now, I’m off to grab a drink, all that shopping makes a boy thirsty. :-P

Seattle is growing… quickly!

June 18th, 2008 Posted in Social Awareness | No Comments »

We are now ranked as having the ninth worst congestion in the country and are already half way to reaching our 20-year housing needs. Gas price increases might fuel increased mass transit in the region. All these things are leading to Seattle getting bigger… sometimes it’s for the better, sometimes it doesn’t go so well.

It will be interesting to see what this city is like in five or ten years, let alone twenty!

Swingers got you down? Mind your own business!

June 14th, 2008 Posted in Annoyances, Humor | No Comments »

I saw this news video on CNN this morning about a swinger’s club that is operating in a residential neighborhood. Now, being a homeowner and a member of my condo board, I recognize the importance of maintaining a safe and quiet community. However, I don’t understand what right these people have to infringe on the sex lives of consenting adults. Their neighbors are not running a drug front, there isn’t loud music booming from the home, and - at least from the video - it appears as if only a handful of vehicles enter the private, gated property. I think this is more an issue of bruised moral egos and Kim Pankcake and his holy roller brigade need to mind their own fucking business. Why do I think this? The individuals interviewed are concerned about their property values (which is understandable, but again, a sign that says party here late night on a weekend in front of an otherwise quiet home isn’t going to be a deal breaker for nearly anyone). I especially love the woman who says, “we don’t know what it will bring in… we’ve had people get out of their cars.” What? People GETTING OUT of their cars! Oh, I’ve seen that happen in my neighborhood… I wonder if every house on my block is running a swingers club. They should be glad that they have otherwise quiet neighbors who keep a clean yard, and keep to themselves. Better yet, they should invite themselves over to the party… and bring a bundt cake. ;-)

Sick doggy

June 12th, 2008 Posted in Pets | 1 Comment »

Our dog, Sophocles, has had an upset tummy. It’s been going on for two weeks. We’re taking him back to the vet, but I hope he’s okay… it’s sad (and smelly) to have a sick doggy. :-(

The Incredible Hulk

June 10th, 2008 Posted in Movies/Music/Media | No Comments »

Went to go see a sneek screening of The Incredible Hulk last nigh with some friends. I was plesantly surprised. Edward Norton is great in the film and there was a fantastic blend of action and actual plot. The best part? (Stop reading if you don’t want the ending spolied)… the Iron Man tie-in at the end. I’m envisioning next summer’s blockbuster already. ;-)

Steve, you tease…

I know this probably sounds selfish or silly, but I was really hoping for more with today’s announcements from Apple. I thought Steve Jobs was going to have more to share related to the iPhone hardware update. Don’t get me wrong, the 3G capabilities are necessary and the GPS functionality is going to be awesome, but I honestly thought we would see a bit more. Now, I knew the video-conferenceing camerea stuff was probably unrealistic, but I wouldn’t have minded seeing a beefed up camera (with video support) on the next version.

I do think all the software upgrades are awesome and I am looking forward to them! I also think that, had I not bought an iPhone in December, I would hands down get the new edition, but I can’t justify spending even $200 for the upgrade.

Welcome Giana!
